Before you start berating yourself about any new year’s resolutions you made in 2017, take a step back and start more simply. Start with what your ‘why’ is right now. We spend so much time thinking about where we want to be; how we want to look; or even who we want to be that we lose sight of why we are here right now. This may seem like a very big and heady question, which it can be. But, I am encouraging you to make it more simple – even one word or phrase. And let that word guide you through 2018.
This one word or phrase should represent what is important to you in simple terms. To identify your word or phrase consider the following questions:
- What brings joy to your heart?
- What do you think about most?
- When do you feel your best?
- If resources weren’t an object, what would you be doing right now?
Research shows that when we have purpose or a sense of meaning we live more fulfilling, longer lives. So, forget about the goals of tomorrow and figure out why you are here right now. Use that to guide you through the year.
